Light up the Macro: Snoot Diffuser v4.0

Light it up a notch!

i had a Snoot Diffuser v3.0 made on last May 2011, it works like a charm but then, i always wanting to build those in a bigger light source but i just couldn't find the right materials and design. Thanks to Kurt for the design input, it pops new idea. i decided to make a "beauty dish snoot diffuser".

It triples the charm! Lucky you i decided to show you how to make one of those.

Here's what you need:
1. Knife or Scissors ( i just can't find my scissors!)
2. Double-Tape
3. Duct-Tape
4. 1.5L Water Bottle
5. Bowl, or best, Protein Shake bottle
6. Aluminum foils (wrinkle)

Here we go!

1. Make sure you got these!

2. Cut the Protein Shake Bottle like these, make use of the screw on top cap for modification, cleaning or maintenance. The break down units are easier to carry too. I call this, Beauty Dish diffuser.

3. Then cut off the 1.5L water bottle, glue/ tape it onto the screw on top cap.This is a snoot!

4. Then i double taped the whole inner water bottle, this will take time, you won't want to cut open the water bottle to attach the tape, it'll only weaken the snoot structure. So, keep it a piece, take your time to attach the double tape inside the bottle.

5. Make sure you wrinkle up the aluminum foils for better light bounce.

6. Then, you double tape the beauty dish diffuser as well, and attach in wrinkled aluminum foils.

7. Lastly, attach the beauty dish front with a diffusing sheet, mine came out of a printer wrapper.

8. Voilà!!!

Huck's Cafe

We landed at a single story white bungalow on the little corner of Bangsar, a sliver of lane off Jalan Bangsar neighborhood. A group of hungry friends and i now surrender ourselves to surprises Huck's comes up with, moving up and down, overwhelmed by the classy and elegant dining room lined on crates and racks of pricey wine bottles and liquors, a handful of times to stop and stare.

Some refers, the underground supper clubs. These kitchen, speakeasy like restaurants usually in residential buildings- first popped up years ago in Europe, for cooks to open restaurant without dealing with high commercial rents. They've long been places to get relatively inexpensive, delicious, or somewhat off the beaten path! In recent years, these supper speakeasies have become hubs for inventive young chefs. Private kitchen with intriguing menus, i set out hungry, Huck's Cafe is a private kitchen runs by the former advertising creative director, Poh Huck Seng.

The best way to describe Huck's Cafe is simply: Your meal will blow your mind!

The Fun of the Fair

Fun Fair is a reminiscence of my childhood days, and it was a decade ago since I'd been one. A place where children gathered for any real chance of fun! it had me thinking about my life; I had been living for a quarter of century, it creeps me out sometimes thinking about the meaning of life itself. it is absolutely crazy to think that's a number to be so somber about, given my amazing childhood, i would take time machine back having that one wild ride to explore it again! i'm so much older now, the change in responsibilities, in understanding if not in years. Only then i realize my childhood has left and my future just keeps on getting better. Now, my first quarter of life marked my first turning point of life; career, love, life.

Sadly yes, deforestation increase, cities surrounded by recent accretions; sadly yet, i love the nature and i can't do anything about it.

The dynamism of Malaysia as a nation-state has been severely impeded by pernicious issues: rampant social injustice, rabid communal polarization, denial of ethnic and cultural diversity. Most damaging of all, the foundation of democracy and civil liberties as enshrined in our Constitution have been systematically undermined.

The independence of judiciary has been compromised through the circumvention of laws to serve the powers that be. The unsustainable exploitation of our rich natural habitat, the denial of the rights of our indigenous people demand our immediate attention. It is timely, appropriate and critical that we review the very fundamentals on which our nation was founded. All Malaysians need to be reminded of their duty, to preserve and to cherish at all times, the dynamism and sanctity of our blessed nationhood.

Vanishing Wet Market

Especially the youngs, wet markets seem to be facing a bleak future. The haggling of prices, the fishy smell, the slippery wet floor, the jostling crowds, the littered floor of vegetables, all these comprised a wet market. a conventional wet market. It is the heart of heartland, the naked crude culture, irreplaceable and timeless.

Air-conditioned hyper-stores have staggeringly overwhelm wet markets, for its hygiene, comfort, and air-condition! The vanishing wet market means we would be losing something dear to our identity. We are raising a generation further adrift from their roots!!! Such onslaughts of hyper-store, is putting our cultural identity at risk.

The luring of power, prestige and wealth is casting off the young's from their roots.

Confessions of a Solo Traveller

Whenever people heard i travel alone, they often told me, "i could never do that.", "i can't do it alone." or "wow."

Well, i most certainly did not toddle my way out to the unknown world! In fact, my first semi-solo travel trip came at 11, when i was on my way down south meet up with my uncle! Another runaway at 16, i skipped school, hopped on a bus, went 300km away from home, and told my mum i slept over at friend's place. My first real dip into the solo travel pool came in when i was 23, i went Krabi, Thailand. It was perfect for me at that time, i really needed a break, peacefully alone. Sometimes, i hung out with other solo travellers; sometimes, i explored on my own. Sure, i got lost, it was intimidating at first, i backtrack, ask for direction and realize 'twasn't a big deal. 'TWAS NEVER A BIG DEAL!!!

Immediately, i found myself with courage going to other places alone, each single trip works wonders, i am brimming with self-confidence and personal growth. i am more capable than i'd ever doubted. The preconception of solo travel is something happened when we who don't have anyone to go with, who without friends. but i'd gotten so much comfortable with travelling alone! i have more time to eat, walk and take pictures.

i don't always enjoy staying dorm, sometimes, i want privacy.
that when i would allocate some extra money to spare on accommodation for the last 2 days of any trip, nothing luxury but something in between, as long as it's comfortable and not too pricey.

i love coffee. i love books. i love music.
l would never travel without a book. Often i found myself venture into places, not only to experience the raw cultures, but to look for a comfortable coffee shop, come back the next day with books and music.

i love walking.
i walk. until i can't walk any further, with that pair of New Balance.

i hate beer.
but often i drink when travelling alone. it makes me look more sober and outcast, i love it that way.

i am not rich. stop saying that!
i need months to save, funding for my travel expenses. i save, then i spend, the cycle goes on, and i don't have much savings. also, i am lucky to have a job that lets me to take extended leave to travel.

i am introvert, but i like talking to other travellers.
they might be strangers, but talking to them wasn't like any small talk. it subjects to their travel adventures, thoughts, something out of the box, as culturally differs.

i tell people i am a student.
i don't know why i say that, it seems the word student kills any conversation that might jack up my work stress while i'm travelling.

i don't call home.
i know, this is something i'm ought to start doing. many times, i tell my family about my trip 1 day before my flight. still, such is a life of a single who lives alone.

i hate checking-in luggage.
i always travel with a 38L travelling bag and a camera belt pouch. it makes me look cool when i don't have to wait for my luggage at the conveyor belt. also, i get to skip pass all the waitings at customs.

i named my Deuter bag, Camera and iPod.
Denver, Kimber and Ally.

These are my confessions, i am not recommending anyone to follow my example. If you've been wanting to try travelling alone, i encourage you to try it at least once.

Alone i wander in the waste of rashes,

there're times we treat life like a mysterious door, it doesn't open no matter how hard we push it or pull it, we never notice that we should've slide it.

there's only one class in the community that thinks more about money than the rich, and that is the poor. the poor can think of nothing else.

of course, we knew this meant an attack on the union. granting them voting rights, gradually to get rid of us?

Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more; it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Everyday, cities are expanding borders and infringing on surrounding lands and forests. My government does no good in preserving forests nor public lands. Eventually, the opportunities for memorable camping experiences are getting fewer and farther between. This, could be the last of our annual camping clique, as it's merely a distance of 20 kilometers from the Rare Earth Plant.

The Hour of My Life in Natural History

i speak of natural history instead of biology, for i, was not particularly brimming with any facts of knowing. Almost as soon as i began to explore, to read at all, i began to amaze by the formidable life in the undergrowth. i was a very near sighted little boy, and didn't even know know that my eyes weren't normal until i was 12, i had to hug my tele to get a clearer view. i watched Masked Rider everyday after school, i should have known, i was very much attracted by the human mimicry-grasshopper.

that's one hell of a mesmerizing insect Collection!

Catching up Jeff Corwin, Nick Baker, Sir David Attenborough on the tele was a my daily routine during the time when i was jobless. exploring the forest in long sleeves and long pants, documenting the life undergrowth! thus was dream. i'm glad i'm fulfilling a small portion of my dream for a naturalist, "collecting" specimens in photographing them. thanks to Masked Rider!

if we and the rest of the backbone animals were to disappear overnight, the rest of the world would get on pretty well. but if they were to disappear, the land's ecosystems would collapse. the soil would lose its fertility. many of the plants would no longer be pollinated. lots of animals, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals would have nothing to eat. and our fields and pastures would be covered with dung and carrion. these small creatures are within a few inches of our feet, wherever we go on land- but often, they're disregarded. we would do very well to remember them. -Sir David Attenborough-

For most i embrace the abundance life of tropical country for co-existing with such amazing creatures.
many might formulate the mind that insects/bugs are puny little being that most disregarded, in fact, they're much more intelligent than you think.

and this dedicated mother devoted her life in guarding her youngs, female jumping spider (Salticidae) with half-hatched eggs.

St. Andrew's Cross Spider, (Argiope Mangal) get its name for the way they hold their legs in an X shape, it's called St. Andrew's Cross because it is believed that the saint was martyred on a cross of this shape than the conventional + shape.

Common Garden Spider (Parawixia Dehaani), when it feels threaten, it retracts its legs close to the body like this, or drop to the ground and play dead.

Green Huntsman Spider (Micrommate Virescens) doesn't build a web and hunts insects in green vegetation, where it is well camouflaged.

she is almost invisible on the tree bark...beautifully disguise.

beside camouflage, an odd ball below hunt in an amazing technique, it catches prey with a sticky silk globe, more it can change the smell of the silk globe to attract different preys. video link

the Bolas Spider (Cladomelea Debeeri) an unusual orb weaver that does not spin the typical web.

while some spiders mimic other species, like ants to hunt and survive.

and recently, i'd documented a praying mantis mimicry- assassin bug (Emesaya Brevipennis), such fascinating mimicry!

these beautiful life undergrowth are such brilliant creatures adapt to survive creatively, please stop destroying their habitats, their home.

[Deinopidae] Ogre-Faced Spider, Net-Casting Spider

and Sir David Attenborough called it the Gladiator Spider. Not venomous nor particularly large but its face would probably scare your pants off, i know, as it spooks me off at the first encounter. It wasn't quite exactly how i would have imagine it seeing over documentary, it's much more mesmerize!

Kurt was screaming, "ogre-faced? is it the ogre-faced? is it the ogre-faced? is it? did you see it's two big eyes? is it ogre-faced???" "YES! YES! YES! IT'S OGRE FACED! I SAW ITS TWO BIG BIG EYES! YES YES YES!" i screamed! Not sure if you know that i'm a big fans of spiders, i was overwhelmed with excitement seeing that! Live in front of my bare eyes! Not to mention, it climbed on my hand!

It has a large brown hump-like back with the ghost rider face at front. From far, it tends to look like sticks and thus making it so hard to find. Its large eyes are very sensitive to light, every night, an area of membrane that is light sensitive created and destroyed at dawn.

These spiders are unique in the world of arachnid for its special preying method. They made very special web that it spins a casting net that it holds with its 4 front legs and throws at its prey to trap. Each morning it'll consume the casting net if it didn't use.

the disappearing of numerous animal special, particularly insects has been increasing in rate over the years. An efficient system for the protection fauna is required by opting the ancient method, which to protect their habitat, and reserve the greens in this country!

Please help to do your part for the environment in protecting the greens.

Stand up and Speak up- Light Along the Journey

it's never too late! "you can't give up hope just because it's hopeless. you gotta hope even more, and cover your ears and go bla bla bla." -Phillip J. Fry has a point. i plumed the crash of- hope and despair with my eyes and puny brain. how the government and some of the main stream media had distorted the truth. truth about bersih, truth about lynas, truth about that diamond ring... ...why it's so hard to demand for Clean and Fair election? why it's so hard to demand for clean environment? "kerana nikmat amat lama berkuasa, kuasa pun seolah menjadi hartanya." - Pak Samad-

As far as i can remember, i was long gone assigned to escort YB Tian Chua towards Teluk Chempedak. it was the first peace rally i'd ever attended, which also marked the first peace rally ever held in the beautiful little town of Kuantan. there's plenty to cheer! quietly! sitting side by side with the person i'd glorify so much about! it felt like the movie "Bodyguards and Assassins", only that, i didn't die.

the NGOs were complaining about political parties hijacked their peace rally, political parties this and that. but what'd the political parties done? picking up the hailer, "Briefing about the situation, chanting for supports, 'Selamatkan Kuantan'." but aren't these parties fighting for a common goal? to stop Lynas. why the necessity of parting what you and me? Children were brave enough to speak up for themselves, but where were my young energetic friends hiding? we need every source of energy to fight for our freedom to clean air.

i'm often frustrated that most of my friends who are always, too terrified to stand up for themselves! what'd happened to the country, society are never up to their sleeves to concern. i'm rather embarrassed that my friends are just gossiping about the issue while mostly were just talking through one's hat. ~~life wasn't always about pussy and money.~~

despite experts (chemicals, corrosion science, environmental, radiation) had repeatedly emphasized on how harmful the Lynas Advanced Material Plant to the environment, human, animals. yet, the Pahang Government restlessly sending lobbyists to pursue us, apply ourselves adjusting to the plant. what matters of conscience? just because it's my home, it doesn't mean i have to accept and compliance with the current state. this isn't an issue of Kuantan people but to all the Malaysian citizen out there.

long ignoring the lesson of Papan, Bukit Merah in the 90's, "those who can't remember the past are condemned to repeat it"? so, what is all this then? repeating the same script? many years till date, Mitsubishi is still unable to cleanup the radiation aftermath of Papan dump-site. 8 leukemia cases within 5 years in a community of 11,000. 7 of the leukemia victims have since died. yet, the government is gambling onto another rare earth processing plant.

i have my rights to live in a hazard free environment, i have my rights to protect my home, i have my rights to free air, i have my rights. i told myself, brimming with faith to "Stop Lynas Solidarity Walk", believing that my government would have heard our cries.

STOP LYNAS! i cried; we cried.
Did the Government also went cover their ears and go bla bla bla?

why should we care about social issue? as it's directly or indirectly affected us without you knowing it and it starts from education. during my years in public high school, some teachers had their teaching method in a wrongful way, intimidating students with punishments. but why haven't we stood up for ourselves? telling the educators, 'this is wrong'? because we were often too timid of punishment? does it means we should keep quiet when teachers were wrong? does it means we have to plant our head in the ground when ISA or EO detained your close ones? BUT why weren't you support PSM to free EO6 then?

i was once accused of intentional pushing a student onto the smashing window, and the discipline teacher had me signing a confession sheet of the wrong doing. i stood up and told him, it wasn't intentional, if i signed i die; if i don't sign i doomed with dignity. i walked out regardless the consequences. i was then lug on the bad student 'fame', and eventually lost my vice president post in school club. nonetheless, stood up for yourself often separated with a thin line with rebellious, it would easily misfired. conscience will keep you uplifted.

along the 5 months battle, we have talks, forums, peace rallies, activities, events... started in Kuantan right to the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Up until recently, we had finally held the first ever, environmental talk about Lynas in University level, 27th July at MMU, Cyberjaya. as vital as it is to expose undergraduates to social issues, embrace lively as the oxygen we breathe. don't be afraid my friend, my conscience tells me to stand up for myself.

PSM 6: Candlelight Vigil

PSM (Parti Socialis Malaysia) or Socialist Party of Malaysia is a party that carries the mission to embrace Socialism Ideology- which social equality and distribution of wealth based on one's contribution to society, and an economic serve the interest of society as a whole.

One of those dark days on July 2nd, PSM 6 were detained without trial under Emergency Ordinance. It was alleged that PSM was a danger to the public as it was planning to revive communist party and topple the government by starting a revolution. The man in question Dr. Michael Jeyakumar, the Sungei Siput MP was also accused of plotting to overthrow the King. Till date, his health deteriorates and kept in isolation under 1969 Emergency Ordinance (EO) of Malaysia.

Among the activists who were detained without trial with Dr. Jeyakumar are PSM Deputy President M. Saraswathy, Central Committee members Choo Chon Kai and M. Sugumaran, Youth Chief R. Saratbabu and Sungai Siput branch secretary A. Letchumanan, collectively known as "PSM 6".

For many nights, PSM held their Candlelight Vigil to protest the absurd detention of PSM 6. The nightly affair, started with family, opposition, PSM members and friends gathered in front of Bukit Aman federal police headquarters. Last night, the affair had augmented to 200 people gathered at Dataran Merdeka.

Food plays a vital role in cultural identity of any nation. Somehow, it defines us. The change of life pace, unorganized rapid town developments, demand for luxuries, eruption of fast foods...significantly made a down payments to some loss of our food identity. 'twasn't only about the food, but the environment as well.

Uppermost devastating, is the lost of interest from our young lads to cultural cuisine. Don't blame the hardworking labors, i blame the government.

Malaysia was once regarded as one of the Asia's most promising emerging economies but the story has soured over decades. The government's failure to speed up economic reform is partly to be blame, but the underlying cause of policy gridlock is social tension. The ruling National Front coalition maintains an uneasy peace between the 3 main ethnic groups.

Nonetheless, the government introduced "Interlok" novel to the curriculum in some public schools. Despite the novel depicted Indian Community in an offensive way, who's trying to upset peace?

Not to mention our upsetting High inflation rate vs Low salary. "Malaysia has a low wage inflation". i certainly did not make that up, i quoted it from the MSC Malaysia website.

Those good old days are over.

One week after to where i stood, the "ground zero" of police brutality towards Bersih marchers. "Hidup hidup! Hidup Rakyat!" distantly chanted. Despite being unarmed, Bersih marchers were treated as if terrorists. A disgrace to human rights.

We'd lived under 1Blackmalaysia for many years, from bribe to murder. Racism and discrimination. You do what you do best, by not abide to laws insulting human rights. That's a hell fancy way to be a law abiding citizen. Don't be persuaded by others who tell you what to do, be a dreamer!

In a country which is not Blind-friendly, the Blinds walk with faith in their heart. We do our best helping them, guiding their way home. We too, need faith in our heart. Faiths for change.

Faiths for change. the land is so rich, why should we suffer like this?

i'd complained so much about my country, but i love Malaysia.

yet, just because it's a home, it doesn't mean we have to accept and compliance with the current state of the country. To be proud of one's country is one thing, but to be proud, oblivious, ignorant to problems is a whole different matter.

i started watching football in 1998, World Cup! i know David Beckham and Michael Owen! Only!
it wasn't until my dad had finally got our house an Astro, and i'd finally got to watch my first F.A Premier League team. Ever! it was May 2001, UEFA Cup final, Liverpool vs Alaves, 5-4! Owen, Gerrard, Fowler, Babbel, McAllister scored! Adrenaline runs throught my veins whole freaking night! I was jumping up and down, screaming but not in sound, trying so hard to hold my rush! i don't want to wake my parent up, caught me watching football match middle of the night! it was a wonderful season when Liverpool won its Treble!

i was then. Realized. it's either i'm Reds or i die.

Liverpool finally got to Malaysia! Not Singapore, not Thailand but Malaysia! and i'd waited. 10 years for this moment.

the United Nation human rights office had voiced their concern about measures being taken by authorities in Malaysia, including restricting freedom of expression on a peaceful demonstration on 9th July 2011. Activists had been arrested simply for possessing Bersih's t-shirt, Malaysian had lived under the sky of terror.

"We are very concerned about the various measures that are being taken by the authorities to restrict freedom of expression in Malaysia, including preventive detention, and the Government's decision to reportedly declare Bersih an unlawful organization." - Rupert Colville, OHCHR's spokesperson in Geneva-

Police in Malaysia fired tear gas like nobody else business; worst, they feel no shame firing at innocent maternity hospital, Picture: they fired tear gas and water cannon towards Hospital Tung Shin, and Police denied it. Everybody at the rally saw it with their own bloody eyes yet they denied it at press conference. Can we still trust them? In safeguarding our nation? Witness also said, riot police armed with batons charged at some protesters and dragged them into trucks (source: al-jazeera news).

Radical street demonstrations are extremely rare in Southeast Asian countries, but the rise of Bersih 2.0 hailed its rally as a victory for the movement and people of Malaysia, also as an alternative channel for growing opposition voice in creating a more vocal Malaysia public.

Bali- the Sunshine Island

It's a phony. 'twasn't exactly how it sounded like, Bali is not a Sunshine Island through out the year, it has Monsoon season from November to March. But then, Bali is one awesomely special island, it was as though it'd gained its independent from Indonesia. Despite Indonesia being the world most populous Muslim majority country, Bali is home to Hinduism. The culture had been around for ages, and it's so contagious, couple of lifestyle sets apart from other lands, from every aspect of its rich culture, festival, event. Balinese are also, great believer in Karma.

Bali is such distinguish that Balinese use 3 types of Calenders for a year: Western, Saka and Wuku. In Wuku year, it has 35 days a month, 12 months a year, and this 6th of July (western calender), they'll be celebrating the biggest festival of Bali! "Galungan", it symbolizes the victory of Dharma upon Adharma (all evil). Balinese will make special "penjor" fits on the right side entrance to every house, "penjor" is a tall bamboo that Balinese bought specially from the market, the best one could goes up to 100,000Rp. Similar to Christmas, the only different is, Balinese show off their craft at their entrance!

Every Balinese have an altar in their house, and every housing area there's a big temple amidst the neighbourhood, and each temple accompanied with a meeting hall cross road. Every stone wall, every street, every aisle... all clothed with green lungs.

This is Bali.

i didn't notice any bus around but trucks seem to be a mainstream transportation for the workers.

Balinese pray 3 times a day, 6am, 12pm and 6pm.

busy Kuta had got me crazy, it's crowds every where i go. No place for roving!
so i hopped on a shuttle bus (it was a van to be exact) towards the heart of Bali! Ubud i go!

Rented a motorbike in Ubud for 50,000Rp (24hrs), drove all the way back down South Bali, Uluwatu catching the last light of Bali.

Bali's sky is really amazing! Breath-taking too!
and it took my heart away.

On the very next day,

i rode from Ubud to Tegalalang, and yes, still on my motorbike, it's still valid until evening! Pretty good deal for a 50,000Rp. Unlike Kuta, Ubud is much of a peaceful land, it gave a little more space for me to redefine- my destination. Despite disregarding my itinerary that i'd been working out for so many nights, skipping all the main tourist attractions; i felt like a cowboy on Harley-Davidson! A lone wanderer rides on for a mission of peace!

My initial plan was to stay in Ubud for 2 days, then hop on another shuttle bus to Besakih.

Balinese are really tourist-friendly! There was a long queue for the nasi campur, it wasn't until 6th or 7th person for our turn. and the Balinese offer me and Kenji the nasi campur first, gosh! that was really great!

Inadequate Transparency Prevalent

Political parties of the governing coalition who hold the true reins of power in this country, and they abuse it to their full benefit.

A shocking lack of awareness among the public on just how much trouble our political parties are causing, and most cursing on the gathering of "Bersih" as causing chaotic in the country. It's solely a coalition demands Clean & Fair election, and don't be surprise to witness havoc during the gathering. If i were those who opposing "Bersih", i'll plant in bad seeds among protesters to create chaos. As simple as that, corruption and inadequate transparency prevalent in Malaysia.

Lack of transparency, lack of Freedom to information, lack of freedom to peace gathering. Are we still talking about democracy?

On recent week, i was with a group of Young Student Bodies to run a survey for Gebeng residents. Most of the residents are family members of factory workers at Heavy Industry Gebeng. Living under the sky of chemical pollution, they were left without a choice. 90% of Gebeng residents against the operation of Lynas, when they were probed whether if they'd consider about moving house, they poked back to me "Where else can i go? We bought the house at Bumiputera rate of RM 25,000. where else can we get RM25k houses?" i silenced.

Housing Bumiputera Rate is to help the low income group, it was suppose to overcome the poverty gap, for them to afford a home to shelter their souls. And many have misuse the benefit, especially with Bumiputera Rate, the rich gets richer when they can afford more houses in downtown, and poor getting poorer when the house they bought in rural area don't appreciate much in value. Bumiputera rates is to help the poor Bumiputera, does it really helping? but how about poor Indian, Chinese or minorities?

Wasn't it time to revamp the plan to "Housing Rates for Low Income group" instead of "Bumiputera"? By the way, obviously indigenous people are the only Bumiputera, and many have lost their home to Bakun Dam.

Due to some inadequate transparency in land issue, my family was about to lost my ancestor home too. My grandfolks' beautiful settlement.

The Weeping Earth!

My country makes me gut-wrenching. Pathetic. Yes. Malaysia governing authorities have been cutting down trees more than they grow. This is not science fiction, the thicker the CO2 blanket, the warmer the Earth. Scientists, environmentalists had been warning about "the 11th Hour", look! Who cares?

Several years ago, my government approved development on reserved forests like Taman Rimba Kiara and Bukit Gasing. How could anyone even think about demolishing ancient forestation? Greedy imbeciles. Would you dare demolishing your ancestors' tomb? Both of the reserve parks had been through months of protesting, petition signing to put a halt on the bulldozers.

Look at the approval of Lynas plant (radioactive), Chemical plants, it all blemishing my beautiful home, Kuantan. Imagine how many beautiful forest Lynas had put down for the refinery of a 140 football fields. How many magical flora, fauna lost their habitats? How long are we going to suffer under the governing bodies of lack in social responsibilities?

Before each and every flora, fauna extinct on the hand of my governing bodies, i would love to do a documentation on my favorite creatures, Spiders.

Spiders are found worldwide on every continent except for Antarctica, they'd established themselves well across every habitat with the exception of air and sea colonization. Yes! They do live among us. Spiders are in fact, NOT insects, they are Arachnid, easily distinguish from insect as insects have six legs and arachnid have eight legs.

the love of Macro Photography

i thought i should start a post conveying my love for macro photography.

Personally, i first became interested in macro was at forums... looking through hundred of insect shots, it awed me. Not long after, i purchased my macro lens and attended macro workshop!

i love exploring. Especially the nature! i love how insects seem locking their eyes with the lens and follow it as i move, or otherwise, leap off as i approach. it never occured to me that insects actually watch us humans! Seeing a insect at a high magnification reveal such amazing details under full flash or natural light, it got me addicted. i was then, joined a group of macro enthusiastic photographers, exploring reserved forests, parks, orchard... sometimes, around my neighbourhood, mostly scares off my neighbours. the beauty of macro open my eyes to beauty of something we don't pay attention to, something we see but don't actually give a damn.

Macro then, become my passion.

Stop Lynas! Campaign is now marching on the second phase, first memorandum was submitted to the Prime Minister office in March 2011, and now successfully handed a second memorandum to the Australia High Commission. 6 representatives were greeted in the goodwill of Australia Embassy, the High Com had their words to give us an answer 3 weeks from now.

While waiting for the unknown, Stop Lynas! Campaign is now moving onto the third phase, what's next? Just you wait. We shall not rest until Lynas is Stopped and authorities are subjected to the penalty upon the infringement of law.

Night Macro Revival!

the revival of my Night Macro after one month pending on my Snoot Diffuser. Snoot Diffuser v3.0 was finally put into a comprehended test run at night! The light was good! :)

Every now and then, i received emails enquire about macro rigs, how i work out on my Night Macro and stuffs. i think i'd never properly ascribed my awesome mentor, Kurt the OrionMystery- Blog, Facebook page. i met Master Kurt a year ago attending his workshop, he, unselfishly sharing his skills, experience and knowledge. i was then, hooked with macro. i am honestly respect his patience, time and efforts in guiding a noob macro beginner like me along the way.

Huntsman Spider- a beneficial spider that feed on insects (mainly Cockroaches! their favorite!). Some of the farmers even relocate Huntsman Spiders to their garden as a guardian rather than killing them. Who needs pest control when you have Huntsman?

House Centipede- one very odd looking creature with 15 pairs of legs. A species that spread to the other parts of the world, where it usually lives in human homes. Yes! Very scary! Faster check under your bed for House Centipede. But hey! Fear not! It is an insectivore that feed chiefly on insects.

a slight upgrade for my macro rig. Got myself an extension tubes several weeks back, not until 2 days ago, i'd finally slam my works and reports aside, make myself a new snoot and a concave!

First light test.
Light was harsh from top down, created heavy shadow!

Second light test.
Same snoot, added concave diffuser on top.
i think the light was pretty well diffused, but then, i face an even more critical issue. The gears were too heavy and bulky! I could no longer shoot on one arm and the concave diffuser leave me smaller room to move around. My arm is sore after shooting for 2 hours. Damn!

STOP LYNAS! Say NO to Radioactive Waste

i take for granted that my Government is health-conscious, social responsible. Little did the Kuantan Citizens know, the world largest advanced materials plant, a size of 140 football fields had been approved for construction in early 2008. Knowing that the advanced materials plant will produce radioactive waste but my Government approved the MYR 7 Billions project. No comprehended news report, no details.

Despite the Australian Company- Lynas is gaining MYR 50 Billions a year, Malaysia Government granted them a 12 years tax-free sack. No tax gained and the Kuantan Citizens have to sustain the danger of ticking bomb. Australia had prohibited the contruction of advanced materials plant due to the hazard of radioactive wastage but why Lynas has to come to a country 60 times smaller than Australia, contructing a plant merely 2km away from a fishing village? Why Malaysia Government welcome Lynas with a 12 years tax-free sack? Why Malaysia Government approved a construction site knowing that, it is populated with villagers? Why the Authorities approved the project before reviewing it? Why hasn't the Authorities answer to our questions?

i have no faith in safeguards claimed to have been put in place to ensure that there will not be radio active leakage neither do i believe there will be a proper dispose of the wastage.

i do not want to face a radio active problem at my backyard, i do not want to subject my family to severe health problems.

"STOP LYNAS! SAVE MALAYSIA" peace rally was more than just a demonstration of doubts towards the Governing Bodies but an ideology instill to humanities, that we, as a citizen to the country hold our rights to our own health and information freedom.

i learnt it the hard way, and i don't even want to talk about it!

okay, may be a little.
i, was obsessed with gears...(that's one of the reason i stopped photography for awhile)
i carried a bulk of gears whenever i travel, most of the time, i wish i could piggy-back my dry cabinet on the go. it was silly, really. i brought my wide angle, tele lens, zoom lens, prime lens. i changed my lens more often that my friend change his girlfriends. those were the crazy days, it was tiring and nonsense. one day, God hit me on the head with light, i have to ditch all my gears and spent 4 months in rehab. now, i am comprehended.

on my Beijing trip, i brought only my 50mm.

it was an early bath of Spring in Tianjin & Beijing. Perfect days for traveling!
i spent my first 2 days in Tianjin, 2 days in Yutian then 3 days in Beijing.
it was almost sunset upon my touch down, the light is amazing!

Yes. it dazed me awhile, why she covered her head with that. net.

i had my dinner at the German Restaurant.
the beer and meat are overwhelming!

after checked-in, head to the Italian Town.

the little devil is my Grandnephew, yes you heard me right! i am that old. a Great-uncle.

of course! Italian Town for the beer and pizza.
Pizza sucks tho.

i do planned to catch the sunrise, but damn the sun rose at 5am.
sleep vs sunrise, sunrise lose.

took a spin at the Ancient Culture Market, it is plain beautiful.
amidst the rapid modernization of Tianjin, it kept its' own culture and ancient architecture.
that's what i love about Tianjin. Vintage.

after lunch, i'm on my way to Yutian County, Hebei for one big event!
now this is not fog nor mist, it's sand storm!
remember the lady with net? it's to save herself from sand hazard.

on the way to Yutian, it makes me realize, how awesomely vast the land in China,
still, it was govern under a rapid development into advance country.
it's not fair to compare but if i were to compare KL to Tianjin, we are at least 30 years behind them.
shameful yet awfully true.

at the Beijing Zoo, it was the first time in my life seeing a tiger that huge.
it was far asleep, i have only a 50mm on Full Frame, so no pics of tigers.
it was gigantic! not sure if what i saw was a Liger but they named the hill Liger Hill,
Nope i just googled, it's a Siberian Tiger. Damn.

next stop.
the Temple of Heaven, it is where the Chinese Emperor used to worship heaven,
pray for good harvests and make sacrifices. Human sacrifices!

Second day in Beijing.
TianAnMen Square, the Gate of Heavenly Peace.
i was totally blown away by the details on sculptures, crafts, designs. those were stunning!

upon the peak, it is where the Ming Emperors reside; also, where the last Ming Emperor Chongzhen committed suicide when the city fell.

also, we take a spin on the notorious Corrupted official of the Qing Dynasty, He Shen's crib.
well, he's smart alright, he's a favorite of Emperor QianLong, he enjoyed his freedom completely to his actions. Corrupted and perverted the law. awesome! i mean, bad boy!

he made his crib similar to the Palace, only at a smaller scale.
and i like his better.

then, just in time to catch a show at Siheyuan, Chinese quadrangles.
we were served with tea and tit-bits.

also, a ride on the trishaw! Exploring the Lao Beijng!

but i have a destiny to fulfill, where i was about the be the man! who climb the one small portion of Great Wall. hey! my first 7 wonders of the world!!! the view was incredible!

but it doesn't demotivate our passion to get to the end of the great wall.

i took a glimpse at the National Stadium of China, Niao Chao before dinner.
to be honest, i don't heart it. i would still prefer the vintage old look of Beijing than modernization.

My China trip ended too soon.
waking up on the next morning, train ticket from Beijing to Tianjin already on my hand.
it's time to leave. Sad and Sorrow. Melancholy.

Tianjin, Beijing are magical cities mingle amidst Vintage-New, Modernization-Regression.
Rapid developments, cities planning are far advance of the edge.

even at the old Beijing, it's still well structured. i was told, Beijing was built on the form of Ba Gua, a Taoist cosmology, literally supported on the eight diagrams. it nurtures the forces of Ying and Yang, the interrelation of balance.

well, i just hate'em smoking so-freakishly-a-lot in public area and air-con room, that was so wrong!
and some of the bad customer service, not only they're rude to customers also, they never say sorry.
oh yes! some of them just spit everywhere, even on the hotel foyer.

does the education system overwhelmed by rapid development? beat me.

i'd been praying and hunting for my first Harvestman, an ever most magical 8 legs creatures i believe! An answer to my prayers on the Saturday night mystery. It appears 2 times! and i lost it 2 times! damn.

Succeeding the inauguration of global warming issue, this year STYLO Fashion Grand Prix uprise its Emerging Designers' Competition Theme- "Paper Dress", where fashion collections conveyed using recycled and biodegradable paper and fabric. i know i can't even sew my own button, but by the sound of it, Paper dress is a heck of a work!

Fashion isn't just about Glamour, it showcase the importance of sustainability, for people to realize fashion is a vital green element. Environmental spirit + Imagination.

i was up early today catching the twilight, no luck. Overcast night-sky without stars.
i can't explain my adoration of dawn and sunrise compare to sunset dusk. Maybe because i enjoy the perception of dark to light, "a new day rise when the sun comes up."

we can only appreciate the miracle of sunrise if we have waited in the darkness, anticipate the unknown light. the beauty of miracle light.

i found this awesome quiet place when i can see KL tower, KLCC and Genting! and i'm gonna be back next week for Star-trails.

Resurrecting my Wimpy Macro!

hey! It marks my 300th entry! Commemorating my come back. What exactly am i coming back from? It wasn't exactly a "come back" but resurrection of my photography. I sold my camera and gears back in December 2010 and now i'm back with a different body with only 2 lenses, Nikkor 50mm f1.4 and Tamron SP90mm f2.8. I'm still stick to Nikon, I got to admit loving the grip of it, and it would spare my financial crisis for not switching to other brands.

During my 4 months self-discovering journey, i'd redefine my space and concentration.

My wimpy macro started up real slow, i found myself wandering not find anything the whole morning. My hands were shaking, and i need more warm-ups!

Full Frame Kimber has give me more viewing space, bigger and brighter 95% coverage. Awesome!
Here's the spotlight of the day! a Native Drone Fly, eristalinus punctulatus from far, it looks as if a Bumblebee, a bee mimic fly. Fascinating creature with bright yellow-black striped and large strange spotted eyes, it was about a size of 10mm. They hover and make a droning noise like a bee, and hence named drone fly.

i give thanks to the Lord, invoke his name, make known of His deeds; for creating such a rattling beautiful creature, also allow us presenting to the world through macro-photography. Make known the beauty of nature.
